The Red Morning Sun

January 21 2010 (Ko Samui)

our night train, as it turns out, was not as moderately fancy as our last night train, but we keep telling ourselves, "at least we get to lie down, otherwise it would be sitting for tens of hours sit-sleeping on a bus," in that way, we are so thankful. on this train, what was a little more weird was that our service man was kind enough to warn us about the safety of our belongings, to keep our valuables close to us, check them before we leave, and that they would be locking the rear entrances of the cars during the wee hours of the night...needless to say again, we didnt sleep well or very long.

views from the morning train rambling towards our train station in surathani...
an amazing red sun that i will never forget. perhaps the following images will give a reference for the layering effect of nature that ive been talking about. i love it visually...

our beach bungalow is simple, with a mosquito infestation which only causes my mosquito rambo killer side to come out during showers, a little exciting from the day to day bore of cleaning myself. our bathroom also happens to be a home to a couple of sweet mint green bulging eyed lizzards---i like them, they look like necklace charms and they curl up on the window screens like sobe lizzards. elena, does not like them... also, our bathroom smelled heavily for the first couple of days of peepee and the water smelled like poo, im getting used to this, doesnt faze me much, brittney does not like da stinky in her nose...

its only a matter of steps to the beach, we can tan well on the large grit sand of the beach, but it is not a good beach for swimming, the bottom is a bit rocky, so in the next few days we'll be looking for a more public and swimable beach. :)

night wandering along the beach front restaurants, so gorgeous and fancy, the place for couples...

a lantern floating into the sky, an amazingly gorgeous spectacle. there is a festival here in another month where thousands are lifted off in an offering for blessings. the long exposure captures its journey...
