we started this morning with a jump into a boat for a full days tour of famous islands and snorkeling! i had never realized that there were distinctly different colors of ocean water until we were buzzing around the local islands. there were tens of different teals, dark blues, turquoises, and greens. this is the best image that justifies that teal green that we saw today...

our 'tour' lasted from 10am till about 630pm, we stopped at the famous Maya bay, which is where some of the filming of "the beach" took place. it was, despite the large amount of spectators, a phenomenal beach location. it was amaaazingly beautiful.

the snorkeling was gorgeous too. we saw a variety of coral, sea snakes, sea horses, tropical fish and jelly fish. it was absolutely something out of Finding Nemo, and for those of you familiar with said movie, there was even a "Drop Off" that Brittney and i swam up to. :)

we stopped at a couple of other picture perfect beach areas with white sand like pudding. one of which was known as monkey island! it was fun for about 5 minutes until we realized how fearlessly snatchy they had become once they were exposed to human food, these poor monkeys surrounded by idiots wanting buffoon images of monkeys eating offered potato chips and soda products. and, accidentally, Elena had her water bottle snatched up by a terrorizing monkey mother with her baby wrapped around her belly. probably not a good idea to fight a monkey momma for a cheap water bottle. another monkey couple fought over our empty sprite cans, and Brittney got stared down into a corner by one monkey after her sprite can, which was hilarious.

on our way home our boat flew over some rope remains floating in the water and it stopped 0ur propeller. our guide had to jump into the open water with his machete and cut the rope. what a hero!

sunset...

the day was really unforgettable. we hope the images provided translate the beauty we saw today. we brought with us an underwater camera, but until we can find a Thai version of Walgreen's 'one-hour-pickup'...we wont be getting those images out yet, just like the full moon party images...

this evening we took our belongings back to our room and went out for dinner. when we came back we were hit with an awful stench. our ocean towels that we sat in all day and a piece of broken sea coral were stinking up our room something deadly. as of this moment we don't know how much trouble we might get in as we purposely ignored the room signs that said "do not use towels at the beach" and proceeded to do that and bring some of the ocean back to stink up the guesthouse! I'm sure this isn't the first time its happened...but my god i will never forget that smell...
